About

I’m a 48 year old mother of three who was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 in 2009.

I very quickly learned that the worst thing I could do was to be any kind of open about it. Between the stigma being outrageous and my own reticence about sharing that much information, I went silent. I’ve stayed that way for the most part.

The thing is, though, that mental illness and mental health need to be talked about. There need to be more human faces on the diagnoses. Our experiences are important, our insights are important. It is entirely reasonable to keep those things private, as I have for so many years. Right now, though, I feel that being one of those faces is something I can do. So I’m trying to write about my life, as best I can. Hopefully it reaches someone and helps in some way.

Thanks for being here.
